Brooklyn Nets: Grading the team’s transactions in the 2021 offseason
By Dylan Carter
5. Brooklyn Nets pick Cam Thomas No. 27 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft
So clearly Brooklyn has done a lot this offseason. They addressed their defense, positional versatility, depth, and even picked up a few assets along the way.
Not to mention they picked up LSU’s Cam Thomas with the No. 29 pick in the draft. Co-MVP of the Las Vegas Summer League, Thomas is a walking bucket in the purest sense of the phrase. His pretty jumper is coupled with a deadly array of dribble moves that allow him to create separation.
From there, Thomas can attack a defense in many ways. He’s no stranger to the 3-point shot, but he also isn’t afraid to take a mid-range jumper if it’s given to him. Thomas will attack the bucket relentlessly if given a lane. If it doesn’t work out, he’ll easily reset at the top of the key and try again.
The biggest question marks about Thomas are his surrounding traits. What is he going to contribute without the ball in his hands, and how can he develop as a defensive player? Considering he is only 19-years-old, there is plenty of time for him to figure it out by learning from several future Hall of Famers on the Brooklyn Nets.
Grade: A
Not only did this addition improve Brooklyn’s chances of winning now, but the team gave fans someone to track as they head into the future.
