Toronto Raptors NBA free agency signing No. 4: Kyle Lowry sign and trade part one – Goran Dragic

The Raptors moved Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat via a sign and trade receiving Goran Dragic and Precious Achiuwa in return. Firstly, it must be said that after being the point guard of the Raptors championship team and giving them most of his playing career, Lowry had every right to look out for himself for one final deal.

He also made sure that the Raptors were able to get something back which speaks loudly about his character. One of the pieces they got back, Dragic is only as a salary piece to make the trade work as Lowry signed a three-year, $85 million contract prior to being traded.

The Raptors have their starting back-court locked in. They have Fred Van Vleet and Gary Trent who will be the engine room for the franchise. This means it is most likely that Dragic will come off the bench which is a role he has been playing with the Heat over the past seasons.

The Raptors will look to try and trade Dragic before the deadline this season in order to gain further assets for the franchise. Dragic is too old for the Raptors to have any serious interest in keeping him. AS it stands though, this is a solid move given that they can move on from Dragic at the end of the season if they can’t trade him.
