Washington Wizards free agency move No. 2: The five-team trade part one: Spencer Dinwiddie

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Washington Wizards completed a draft-night trade which sent Russell Westbrook to the Lakers. The Wizards received Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Montrezl Harrell in return.

They also received Aaron Holiday from the Indiana Pacers. However, this trade was then expanded to include the Brooklyn Nets and San Antonio Spurs. All the Wizards had to do to secure the Dinwiddie’s services was to send a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 pick swap to the Nets.

There is risk associated with signing Dinwiddie as he only played three games last season due to him tearing his ACL. However, if he can return to his pre-injury production, then this will be a tremendous move for the Wizards. This will be especially so as they did not have to give up much to get him.

In the 2019-20 season, Dinwiddie averaged 20.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 31.2 minutes per game. Dinwiddie has managed to produce these numbers despite being a poor 3-point shooter. He went 30.8 percent last season. However, he thrives when surrounded by good shooters and this is something the Wizards have.

Grade: Cautious A-
