2021 NBA Free Agency Grades: Minnesota Timberwolves

Key Additions: Taurean Prince (trade)

Key Departures: Ricky Rubio (trade to Cleveland)

The Minnesota Timberwolves had very little to do this free agency period, with only a handful of bench players hitting free agency and very little financial flexibility to add to the roster.

The one move they did make was sending Ricky Rubio to the Cleveland Cavaliers for forward Taurean Prince and a second-round pick, reducing their payroll enough for some breathing room to re-sign Jarred Vanderbilt. They have kicked the tires on some other free agents, but their status as a non-contender hurts them in adding inexpensive veterans.

There is not much more to say about the Timberwolves. It’s possible they look into trade options to move Jarrett Culver if he has any value left around the league. Otherwise, they seem set to move into next season with their core of D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Grade: C+
