What Lonzo Ball brings the Chicago Bulls: 3. Leadership

Lonzo Ball had to handle a lot of unnecessary hate that he did not bring amongst himself the second that he stepped into the league.

A lot of this had to do with the blasphemous statements that his father made about Ball. Whether it be saying he was better than Stephen Curry to saying LeBron James had to join to Lakers to play with Lonzo to win a ring, this brought a lot of unwanted attention Lonzo’s way.

However, rather than playing into this or letting it effect him, Ball let his dad do the talking and he remained quiet and humble. It is unlikely that Ball will be a vocal leader for the Bulls, however, he will be an amazing locker room presence and floor general for Chicago.

This is something that the Bulls desperately needed. Only a few years ago, they had one of the worst locker rooms in the league that was very divided. Along with this, there was a standoff between players and management.

With those mishaps behind them, bringing in leaders like Ball is something that will assure no dysfunctionality will happen again.

Eric Bledsoe spoke to the improvement Ball has made as a leader in a recent interview saying, “Just the way, when he has the ball, how mature he is with making plays,” he said. “He’s been doing it all season long. No matter win, lose, he always wants the ball. Even if he doesn’t have the ball, he tries to encourage other players out there. He’s just going to get better as he gets older”.

Ball will be a great addition to the Bulls both on and off of the court. It was an amazing move by Chicago to acquire him without giving up too much in return.
