Pistons: 3 targets in NBA free agency to pair with Cade Cunningham

Pistons targets in NBA free agency to pair with Cade Cunningham: 1. Tim Hardaway Jr.
From a sentimental point of view, you can’t do much better than Tim Hardaway Jr. in free agency if you’re the Detroit Pistons. His father was an assistant coach for years in Detroit under Stan Van Gundy and the younger Hardaway was himself a star at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, just down the road from Detroit.
On top of that, his old Michigan coach, John Beilein, is now a senior and player development adviser with the Pistons. It’s a match made in heaven from an emotional perspective.
This is a great matchup on the court, as well. Tim Hardaway Jr. was unlocked during his time with Luka Doncic when he played for the Dallas Mavericks, and being able to go home to play with somebody of a similar playmaking ilk like Cade Cunningham could be a wondrous bit of serendipity.
According to SI’s Grant Afseth, the Pistons are indeed in the mix to sign him away from the Mavericks even though he is reportedly his incumbent team’s top priority this offseason.
The city of Detroit always rejoices when their own come home, and if Hardaway does sign on to play with Cade Cunningham in the Motor City, this would be a happy time indeed.
