The Minnesota Timberwovles are shopping Jarrett Culver

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Jarrett Culver with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, placing him over guys like Tyler Herro, Brandon Clarke, and Miye Oni (Ok, maybe one of those guys would’ve been a worse pick). Since then, Culver has seemed to fail to live up to his high position, putting up a career average of 7.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.8 steals while shooting a 40/28/50 split. While those numbers aren’t horrible, especially for a player averaging around 20.7 minutes coming off the bench, they haven’t been where Minnesota has wanted them. Because of that, they are now looking at trade packages including Culver, according to Darren Wolfson.

According to Wolfson, on his The Scoop w/ Doogie podcast, the Wolves are looking for a return price of a second round draft pick for this year’s draft. This rumor seems to have a bit more weight to it now, as well, considering that Wolfson was reporting on this possibility more than three months ago.

If Minnesota really is interested in shipping Culver away for a second round pick, then it’s likely that many teams would be interested in a deal. Of course, the Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, and Orlando Magic have the first three picks in the second round, making them the most viable trade partners with Minnesota.

It’s also important to not overlook the OKC Thunder, who have the 16th and 18th overall picks, and the Houston Rockets, who have the 23rd and 24th overall picks, as two teams who may give up one of their first round selections for a role player who has shown potential, and who right now really just lacks consistency.

What may hold them back is that they’re both full at the two guard spot, and at 6’6″, it’s unlikely Culver could do much significant work in a small forward role. Still, the asking price is low enough, and Culver’s potential is high enough, a deal might just be enticing enough to go through.
