Golden State Warriors: What Moses Moody brings to GSW
By Zane Harris
With the 14th overall pick of the 2021 NBA draft, the Golden State Warriors selected Moses Moody. The guard from Arkansas was at the top of the Warriors draft board and they even considered taking him with their seventh overall pick.
However, he fell into their lap at 14 and he will be a great fit on the Warriors.
With this late-lottery pick, the Golden State Warriors selected Moses Moody. The point guard from Arkansas could have some instant impact.
In his single season with the Razorbacks, he racked up quite a few awards. Moody was named to the All-SEC team, the SEC All-Freshman team, and the SEC Rookie of the Year. He is an incredible shooter. In college, he shot 35.8 percent from three on 5.1 attempts per game.
Moody is a lethal spot-up and catch and shoot scorer. Along with this, he is comfortable with his dribble to drive past defenders if he catches them in the air on a pump fake. While not a lethal shooter, Moody should be able to come into the league a bit above league average from deep.
Moody is considered to be the best 3-and-D wing in this draft and his true value comes from his production on the defense. On the defensive end, he is another versatile defender the Warriors got in the draft. Moody stands at 6’6″ with a 7’0″ wingspan.
His length and athleticism make for a scary combination for opposing players. In college, he almost averaged a block and a steal a game in a very talented SEC conference. He uses this length to shrink the floor on the defensive end. Fans of the Warriors should look for constant deflections and tipped passes from Moody.
All in all, Moody will likely not be a starter for the Warriors this season, however, he will be one of the first players to come off of the bench. He has a lot of potential, but with the Warriors being championship contenders, they do not really have the time to wait for players to develop.
For the time being, fans should expect Moody to be used as a defensive specialist and a spot-up shooter. He is already a player that thrives on offense without the ball in his hands which may net him more playing time.
With an entire regular season to develop and become more comfortable playing in the NBA, Moody could be a real contributor when the playoffs come around. With Klay Thompson being a possible mentor for him, fans should be very excited about what Moody can be molded into.
