Atlanta Hawks offseason roster move No. 1: Re-sign Lou Williams

As mentioned earlier, Williams helped fix a number of issues that the Hawks were having prior to his arrival. The three-time Sixth Man of the Year came to the franchise and continued to shoot in the same uninhibited manner that has defined his career.

Williams developed a connection with the Hawks rookie Okongwu in the pick and roll which allowed the rookie to become a significant part of the second unit. Williams used this connection to help mentor Okongwu, helping him grow within the team which helped the Hawks rotations no end.

On top of this, he was able to create for himself and others almost at will. This helped unlock the potential of the Hawks’ second unit. Defenses needed to respect Williams’ shot on the perimeter which created more space for Gallinari who used it to great effect in most games.

Williams considered retirement when he found out about the trade but fortunately for the Hawks kept playing and made a significant contribution. He has hinted through social media that he is looking to come back next season. If the Hawks can get him at a close to a minimum deal they should sign him as soon as they can.
