Utah Jazz: 5 offseason roster moves they need to make
Utah Jazz offseason move No. 5: Find value with pick No. 30
Thanks to having the best record in the league last season, the Jazz received the last pick in the first round of the NBA draft. As they are looking to try and improve on last season, they are unlikely to be able to select a player of sufficient quality to move them forward.
If the right player comes along, the Jazz will select them. However, the Jazz’s best option would be to package this pick-up with a player who they can afford to lose, and improve the team this way. Otherwise, they may be stuck with another low-value player, taking up room on their cap sheet.
The Jazz still need to get a decent backup point guard who can run the offense in a pinch. They use Joe Ingles in this role but he does have his issues defensively. His offensive creativity and 3-point shooting more than make up for this deficiency.
If the Jazz were able to put together a package to trade for a defensive-minded point guard like the Atlanta Hawks Kris Dunn, this could round out their second unit. The 30th pick may be a crucial piece in any trade the Jazz make.
