Utah Jazz offseason move No. 4: Trade Udoka Azubuike

The Jazz are a team in win-now mode, especially as they were the best regular-season team last year. They selected Udoka Azubuike with the 27th pick in the 2020 NBA draft. They selected him in an effort to fix their second unit rim protection which was severely lacking in 2019-20.

The Jazz then signed Favors after he played a season with the New Orleans Pelicans. Favors played the backup minutes when Rudy Gobert rested and he was more than a match for the opposition. Favors was a big reason that the Jazz were the top seed in the NBA.

As a result Azubuike only player 15 games for the season. He averaged 1.1 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. He was not even able to score with any efficiency, only hitting 44.4 percent of his shots. This was despite taking 77.8 percent of his shots from within three feet.

Azubuike is due $2.0 million next season and then has a team option of $2.1 million in the 2022-23 season followed by $3.9 million the following year. If they were to trade him for another pick or a veteran who can help the team, this will potentially help them have a deeper playoff run. The Jazz cannot afford to have any passengers on this ride.
