Utah Jazz offseason move No. 3: Move on from Ersan Ilyasova

Ersan Ilyasova was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks just prior to the season starting. Ilyasova was without a contract until the Jazz came and offered the 13-year veteran a minimum contract five months later to finish out the season.

Ilyasova played in 17 games for the Jazz and averaged 3.8 points and 1.7 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game. He even shot the ball well from deep, going 43.9 percent from behind the arc on 2.4 attempts. What he lacks in athleticism, Ilyasova made up for in shooting.

Ilyasova has already had a part of the season with the Jazz meaning that he has a fair understanding of their systems and his role within them. Give him a preseason working with the team and he will improve his positioning on offense and be more confident of his switches on defense.

As mentioned earlier, the Jazz are already over the tax for next season and they still need to sign Conley. Ilyasova has already seen that there is not much interest in his services. This should mean that the Jazz can secure him on a minimum salary deal. After all, if it does not work out, the Jazz has the ability to waive Ilyasova and have a minimal impact on their salary cap.
