Phoenix Suns offseason move No. 3: Re-sign Torrey Craig

The Suns lucked out at the start of the season when they were able to sign Torrey Craig. The defensive specialist was a casualty of the Denver Nuggets’ success from last season. Instead of re-signing with the Nuggets, he chose to sign on with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks then traded Craig to the Suns a week before the trade deadline for cash. Craig, who has never been known for his offense, had a breakout of sorts at that end of the floor. Craig averaged a career-high 7.2 points per game on 50.3 percent shooting from the floor.

He was also very effective at crashing the boards with another career-high of 4.8 per game. While he only played 32 games for the Suns last season, he was the player called upon to defend the opposition’s best wing when Bridges went to the bench.

It would be beneficial for the Suns if they were able to sign Craig on the minimum salary but his defense was so important to the franchise then they should pay him a little more if he asks. He allows for Booker to rest a little on the defensive end which has benefits on offense.

The Suns were not in the luxury tax last season so if they go there this season, it will be worth it for a championship. Every team has its superstar players, however, depth and experience win championships. Craig adds to both of these categories.
