LA Clippers offseason move No. 4: Have Serge Ibaka opt-in

Another injury that hampered the Clippers throughout the season was Serge Ibaka and his back injury. The former NBA blocks champion missed 30 games throughout the season before returning for the final two games of the regular season and then the first two playoff games.

Ibaka would then be out for the rest of the season, having surgery on his back to fix his issue. This meant that the Clippers had to make do without his 11.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 23.3 minutes per game.

Ibaka is such a key piece for this team due to his ability to play both front-court positions. This gives the Clippers incredible flexibility with Zubac, Cousins, hopefully, Marris and Ibaka. This is a luxury that the Clippers have meaning they can defend almost any team in the NBA.

The final year of Ibaka’s beal is worth $9.7 million meaning that if things are not going well for the Clippers, Ibaka’s salary is one that can be moved to a contender at the deadline, potentially giving the Clippers a first-round pick or a player who addresses a roster need at that point of the season.
