Brooklyn Nets: 5 offseason roster moves they need to make
Brooklyn Nets offseason move No. 5: Find some defense with the 27th pick
The Nets tried to add defense to their squad on a couple of occasions last season. They tried with Norvel Pelle before waiving the big man. They then also tried former OKC Thunder defensive standout Andre Roberson before also waiving him.
The problem for the Nets is that they are not that good on defense and other teams can take advantage of this. Usually, to win a championship in the NBA a team had to be top-10 in both offense and defense. The Nets have the offense covered but need to fix their defense.
This is where they now have to turn to the draft to fix this issue. They cannot afford to sign any notable player due to their already hefty salary bill. Unfortunately for the Nets, they only have the 27th pick in the upcoming NBA draft to try and fix the issue.
All is not lost though. The most famous player in recent memory taken with this pick is Rudy Gobert. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year was taken with the 27th pick in the 2013 NBA draft. If the Nets could find a player with even half as much defensive acumen at this pick in the draft, then they will go a long way to fixing their Achillies heel.
