Brooklyn Nets: 5 offseason roster moves they need to make
Brooklyn Nets offseason move No. 4: Trade DeAndre Jordan
As mentioned earlier, the Nets are in serious luxury tax issues. They will need to win it all next season or the team ownership may look to send some pieces away in an effort to win without paying excessive tax bills. You only pay this much money if you believe that the team can win.
They have one way to slightly reduce their tax bill this season and that is to trade DeAndre Jordan. The 13-year veteran has seen his averages drop for the past few seasons. Last season he averaged 7.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 21.9 minutes per game.
He hit 76.3 percent of his shots but that is to be expected when 61.0 percent of all the shots that you take are dunks. This helped him shoot 87.6 percent of his shots from within three feet of the rim. He is an offensive dinosaur in a pace and space league.
Jordan is due $9.8 million over the next two seasons. The Nets could get similar production for a fraction of the cost. Getting Jordan off their books will save the Nets money but also hopefully allow the Nets to find a player who defends at a higher level and gives them more options on offense.
