Brooklyn Nets offseason move No. 2: Re-sign Bruce Brown

Bruce Brown originally came into the league as a defensive specialist. He began starting for the Detroit Pistons and thanks to a large number of injuries, Brown had to become more active on offense also. The 6’4″ guard averaged 4.3 points per game in his rookie season and has doubled that in the next two seasons he has been in the league.

Last season for the Nets, Brown averaged 8.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.9 steals in 22.3 minutes per game. These numbers are all near what he produced for the Pistons last year except for his assists. They dropped from 4.0 per game in his final season for the Pistons.

Part of this was the complete role change for Brown. When he was on the court for the Nets he was providing the defensive presence on the court. He had any of Harden, Irving, or Durant acting as a playmaker, meaning that he was able to get on the end of passes, rather than creating.

Brown shot the ball at 55.6 percent from the floor which is incredible for a guard. If the Nets can sign him at the minimum then both sides will feel that they have won the deal. Brown will want to continue to win as he was on a struggling team for two seasons and the Nets want to lock him up cheaply thanks to their salary cap position.
