2018 NBA draft: Re-grading Pick Number 2. Marvin Bagley III: D

This is an unfortunate turn of events for the Sacramento Kings. Luka Doncic was clearly a transcendent talent ahead of the draft and Trae Young was not far behind. Marvin Bagley III was an elite high school player, the number one recruit in his class. While the guards at the top of the draft looked to be overall better prospects, Vlade Divac let his biases get in the way and took a sing on Bagley.

Health and inconsistencies have certainly hindered his production. He missed 20 games in his rookie season, 29 games in his third season and 59 games in his sophomore campaign. He has been marginally productive when he has been able to stay on the court but when compared to the rest of the top five it hurts to be a Kings fan.

Further complicating matters, Bagley’s father has not been quiet about demanding to be shipped out of town. There has been something of a shortage of takers to date. Bagley has plenty of talent. But at this point, the Kings look to be the only team in the top five who missed out on an All-Star. This is the way the longest playoff drought in the NBA continues without an end in sight.
