2018 NBA draft: Re-grading Pick Number 21. Grayson Allen: C

Grayson Allen came out of college with a negative reputation, known more for tripping opponents than for anything on the basketball court. It took a little time for it to click in the NBA, specifically begin sent from the Utah Jazz to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of the trade for Mike Conley, but Allen’s game is starting to come together.

Allen’s time in Utah was not without event, as he dropped 40 points in his rookie season, but the fit was never perfect. Utah was ready to compete, and Conley fit the team perfectly. Allen has matured in Memphis and turned into an ideal role player for a young team. Over two seasons he has hit 39.5 percent of his 4.7 3-point attempts per game. His continued growth only makes this pick look better but for Utah, that ship sailed after his first season.

Grayson Allen, combined with salary filler and picks, was enough for the Jazz to bring in their third All-Star. This trade allowed the Jazz to reach the top seed in the league during the regular season this year and will make them a continued contender as long as Conley re-signs with the team this summer.
