2018 NBA draft: Re-grading Pick Number 15. Troy Brown Jr.: C

With Michael Porter Jr. finally off the board there is less negativity hanging over the grades for teams to chose to pass on him for a “safer” prospect. Troy Brown Jr. has shown solid flashes of being a role player for years to come, which is far from a guarantee once teams get to selecting outside of the lottery. He was shipped to the Chicago Bulls at the deadline but that was more about a roster crunch with the Washington Wizards than anything wrong with his game.

Brown found his minutes this season dip noticeably, in part due to the emergence of Rui Hachimura and the drafting of Deni Avdija. After a solid second season that saw Brown play 25.8 minutes per game, his opportunities dwindled to 13.7 minutes per game before the trade.

However, his per 36-minute numbers show only a slight dip, indicating that he should be able to get back to a respectable level of production with time. Brown is an average return for the 15th overall pick and given that the rest of the top 20 were dependent on fit to blossom there is hope that Chicago can help Brown take off. A full offseason and training camp with Billy Donovan should only help.
