Denver Nuggets offseason move No. 3: Re-sign Paul Millsap to a team-friendly deal.

All throughout his career, Paul Millsap has been a very difficult player to stop. Standing 6’7″, Millsap does not possess any outstanding physical attributes. The way that he plays the game means that bigger defenders are too slow and smaller defenders are not strong enough to stop him.

Millsap first signed with the Nuggets in the 2017 offseason on a three-year deal worth $90 million. When that deal expired the last offseason, Millsap signed on again for a one-year deal worth $10 million.

He was able to get this deal after Grant requested the trade as Millsap lost his starting spot in the playoffs to the Syracuse product. He would also have lost contract money if Grant had stayed.

Millsap still started 36 games for the Nuggets this year as a 35-year-old. He was still able to produce averaging 9.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 20..8 minutes per game. This was far from his best output but as he is entering the final few years of his career, Millsap can be forgiven for this.

The Nuggets still need his leadership both on and off the court. However, as he is going to take even more of a back seat, they would want to sign him for close to a veteran’s minimum which will take some pressure off the salary cap.
