Players the Portland Trail Blazers should trade into the NBA draft for: 1. Joe Wieskamp, Iowa

Usually, towards the end of the draft, teams look for raw players with upside or players with a specific skill set who can contribute right away. Joe Wieskamp fits the second one perfectly because he is an excellent knock-down 3-point shooter.

Wieskamp is 6’7”, 205 pounds and has a 6’11”wingspan. For his career at the University of Iowa, Wieskamp shot 41.6 percent from the 3-point line per game, and last year, he shot 46.2 percent from the 3-point per game on 158 total attempts.

Wieskmap can knock down 3-point shots from all over the court and with legit NBA range on offense. He can shoot coming off screens or pin downs, handoffs, catch and shoots and can create shots for himself with the ball in his hands. When he is on the court, teams have to locate him and pay close attention.

Wieskamp has a pretty decent handle and has shown some flashes of being a solid playmaker as well. He is an intelligent player who knows his role and makes good off-ball cuts, high IQ passes and does all the little things to help the team.

On defense, Wieskamp will not wow anyone, but his high basketball IQ helps him out on that end of the floor, along with his size. He is a willing defender who will battle using his length and quickness and is also a pretty good rebounder. At least, he shouldn’t be someone who is a vulnerability on that end when playing.

The Blazers have some excellent 3-point shooters on their team, and it never hurts to add more in today’s game. Wieskamp could play shooting guard and small forward for the team, and because he can handle the ball and be a bit of a playmaker, he maybe could see some early minutes at the wing spot.

Regardless, it would be nice to have another player coming off the bench that can light it up from the 3-point line and make defenses have to stay on him instead of sending help to Lillard, Nurkic or McCollum. If Portland adds Wieskamp to the roster, they could end up with the best 3-point shooting team in the NBA.
