Memphis Grizzlies offseason move No. 4: Extend Jaren Jackson Jr.

The biggest move for the Grizzlies with how their current roster is set up is to extend Jackson. While he has struggled with injury for all three seasons so far but the talent level is so high that if he can get on top of the injuries, then he is going to be an outstanding player.

In his rookie season, Jackson played close to the basket as he was playing with Marc Gasol who was a good 3-point shooter for a 7-footer. However, when the Grizzlies traded Gasol to the Toronto Raptors, Jackson’s role changed.

In Jackson’s second season, Valanciunas became the man in the middle which meant that Jackson had to become more of a stretch-four role which he performed admirably.  He took 6.5 attempts from deep and made them at an incredible 39.4 percent.

Jackson is also a key piece in the Grizzlies defense. He has really good length and is a solid rim protector. He has averaged 1.5 blocks per game for his career which changes the way that teams attack the paint against the Grizzlies. The injuries will impact the value of the extension for Jackson, but that will benefit the team down the track
