Washington Wizards offseason move No. 1: Re-sign Raul Neto

While the Wizards have Westbrook at the point guard position, the struggle for the backup spot is very real. Last season the Wizards had both Ish Smith and Raul Neto play the role, and it was Neto who did the better job. He was also paid significantly less which is important for the Wizards.

One of the problems for the team is that they have only 10 salaries on the books and have $121.9 million in salaries. This means that the teams need to sign the rest of the roster for less than $10 million if they are to remain under the luxury tax apron this season.

Neto has never earned more than $2.1 million for a season and this is what the Wizards would be hoping that they could get the deal done for. Smith is used to being paid at a much higher rate and as he is 33, he will be looking for one more payday before he hits the twilight of his career.

At 29 Neto is a better age for this squad as he is a similar age to Beal and Davis Bertans and only a few years younger than Westbrook. The Wizards want to build on last season’s success and Neto’s better shooting last year enables the floor to be spaced a little better, helping the rest of the team create.
