The Charlotte Hornets should pursue Andre Drummond in 2021 NBA Free agency

Looking to shore up their center rotation for a playoff push, the Charlotte Hornets were among teams with ties to Andre Drummond during the regular season.

Drummond would ultimately end up signing with the Los Angeles Lakers after securing a buyout to go compete for a championship, but they never quite got there. The big man could potentially be on the move once more as he made it clear on Instagram that he will not be taking a pay cut in free agency, despite his playoff run ending with him being benched entirely. If Drummond is indeed seeking more than a minimum deal, the Hornets would be one of the teams to likely offer it to him because of their center needs.

While his playstyle has been criticized time and time again, Drummond could benefit this Charlotte team with the big man they have been searching for. He would immediately help clean up their apparent rebounding issues, as the team ranked 19th worst in boards this year by hauling in just 43.8 per game. Drummond has averaged 13.7 rebounds per game for the entirety of his career, and the Hornets could undoubtedly use that boost on the glass immediately. He has his limitations offensively, but the former All-Star could help this team improve without question.

The biggest question will be just how much money the 27-year-old is seeking. He made it clear that singing for the minimum is not an option, but his value is certainly not through the roof after a subpar playoff run either. Either way, Charlotte should look to gauge his interest without breaking the bank if possible.
