Offseason goals for the Pistons: 2. Add another first-round pick

This past season, Pistons general manager Troy Weaver made his first legendary quote, stating that his aggressive philosophy means that his “clip will always be empty”.

He’s demonstrated that at every opportunity, starting with last season’s NBA draft night where he ended up adding two more first-round picks before the end of the proceedings. After selecting Killian Hayes seventh overall, the Pistons went on to draft Isaiah Stewart 16th and Saddiq Bey 19th.

Given this history and the fact that Weaver values these picks, it shouldn’t come as any surprise if the Pistons work to add at least one more first-round pick in next week’s draft. They have some ammunition, too. The Pistons own the 37th, 42nd and 52nd picks in the second round of this draft, and they also have played like Josh Jackson and Sekou Doumbouya who may be on their way out via trade.

These assets won’t net them a top-10 pick, but maybe something in the 16-to-20 range could be achievable.

Rest assured that if there is an opportunity, Troy Weaver won’t let NBA draft night go by without emptying that clip one more time.
