Portland Trail Blazers: 5 offseason roster moves they need to make
Portland Trail Blazers offseason move No. 5: Extend Anfernee Simons
Having finished his third season in the league, Anfernee Simons has started to cement his standing within the Trail Blazers rotation. Looking at his raw scoring, Simons dropped from 8.3 points per game last season to 7.8 points per game this season.
Part of this can be explained by his drop in minutes from 20.7 per game last season to 17.3 minutes per game this season. However, what you will see is that Simons increased his efficiency so was able to make a big impact in less time.
He made 42.6 percent of his 4.4 attempts from beyond the arc per game. This means that he hit a very healthy 1.9 shots from 3-point land. This is a level of efficiency that the Trail Blazers can take to the bank. Simons is taking fewer shots to average similar points per game.
As Simons is only 22 years old he is going to be a big part of the future of this franchise. He is going to continue to develop into a tremendous shooting guard with point guard potential. If Lillard or McCollum do get traded for Ben Simmons, the Trail Blazers are going to need all the floor spacing that they can get.
