NBA Finals: 3 takeaways from Bucks-Suns Game 5 – Can the Phoenix Suns overcome a 3-2 series deficit losing three straight?

As the final buzzer of Game 5 sounded, it felt like the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA Championship. However, there’s obviously more work to be done and now the Phoenix Suns are the team that will be faced with overcoming adversity.

After losing three straight games in the NBA Finals, the Suns must win the next two games with momentum on the opposite side and with the next duel taking place on the road in Milwaukee. It’s going to be a very difficult task for head coach Monty Williams’ squad, but possible.

If the Suns are going to pull it off though, Devin Booker will need some advanced help offensively, especially from Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton. A takeaway from Game 4 included how Paul must regain his swagger to control the pace and set the tone because when he’s doing that, he’s creating a comfortable rhythm for both himself and his teammates, which goes beyond measures.

Credit must be given to Jrue Holiday for disrupting that, but CP3 must find a way to confidently bounce back, adjust, counter, and lead this young team as he’s done all season. Role players like Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, and Cam Johnson feed off Paul’s excellence, so it could cause a chain reaction if the 11-time All-Star responds accordingly.

The Phoenix Suns did not play poorly throughout the Game 5 loss, but still find themselves stuck in a deep hole as they drift further away from its first-ever championship in franchise history. As the NBA Finals shift to a Game 6 showdown on Tuesday evening, will the Milwaukee Bucks make history and clinch the title or will the Suns shake off the regression and have the resiliency to stay alive?
