Miami Heat offseason roster move No. 5: Sign John Collins

Imagine a Heat frontcourt that featured Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler and John Collins. This is a team that could take on the world and would win. Adebayo and Butler are incredibly good defenders and Collins also provides decent rim protection when used correctly.

Collins had another good season with the Atlanta Hawks this season and is going to be the most sought-after power forward in free agency. One problem for the Heat is that he is not going to come cheap. At least four teams have expressed an interest in his signature and that does not include his current team the Hawks.

As Collins is a restricted free agent, the Hawks currently hold the right to match any offer sheet that Collins signs. They have expressed that they are willing to go into the tax to re-sign their players. However, they may balk at a max-contract, despite the fact they would love to see Collins back in a Hawks uniform next season.

The Heat have some room to move with the team options for Iguodala and Goran Dragic. When combined, they are worth just under $35.5 million, which is a sizable amount of money that can be used to lure Collins’ signature.
