Miami Heat offseason roster move No. 2: Only exercise Andre Iguodala’s option if a trade is guaranteed.

The Heat should not have Andre Iguodala on their roster next season. He was a tremendous addition last season and his defense was a driving force behind their surprising Finals run. He was also the conduit for getting Justise Winslow off the books.

However, this season Iguodala only averaged 4.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 21.3 minutes per game. While these numbers are not much different from last season, Iguodala is 37 years old and is a step slower.

If Iguodala was on $4.0 or $5.0 million a season then there would be no hesitation, the Heat would exercise his team option and have him back next season. The problem is that Iguodala is on $15 million next season and is not producing enough to justify such a big deal.

The only way that the Heat should pick up this option is if they have a trade lined up and ready to go. They need to rejuvenate their roster and having such a big portion of the cap tied up in the contract of a player who is not producing at the level required.
