NBA Draft: Pro comparisons for the top 30 prospects in 2021
2021 NBA Draft: 7. Scottie Barnes compares to Draymond Green
Draymond Green has to be rubbing his eyes whenever he sees Scottie Barnes play.
For the most part, Green runs into a ton of criticism. In a day and age where scoring the basketball is considered a premium, Green simply doesn’t do it very often for the Golden State Warriors. Still, he’s their best rebounder, passer, playmaker, defender and the obvious heart and soul of a championship level club.
With Barnes, he was the exact same way for Florida State University. His 10.3 points per game won’t leap off the page but his four rebounds, four assists and 1.5 steals per game do. While he often came off the bench and matched up against forwards, Barnes almost always initiated the offense. He would pull down boards, push the ball himself and hit teammates perfectly for wide-open shots.
If smaller defenders attempted to take advantage of him off the bounce, they had another thing coming. At 27.5% from distance, Barnes also shares the same weakness as Green. Meaning, he isn’t much of a shooter. Despite that, he’s dangerous enough to where teams can’t leave him open. His Swiss Army Knife like capabilities on both sides of the ball make him ridiculously valuable. A team filled with shooters and ready to contend will gain the most from Barnes.
