2021 NBA Draft: 15. Usman Garuba compares to OG Anunoby

There’s still a lot of work to do for Usman Garuba. With any overseas prospect, evaluating them can be somewhat difficult. With that said, Garuba is an intriguing player.

At 6’8 and weighing 230 pounds, the physicality of the league won’t be much of an issue for Garuba. He showed an ability to hit shots but also a willingness to crash the glass as well. Like any young player, Garuba had his moments of inconsistency but after taking home the Rising Star Trophy for the 2020-21 season, an award Luka Doncic won as well overseas, Garuba has plenty of upside.

Who he reminds us of, is Toronto’s OG Anunoby. A defensive-minded player who was known more for his slashing capabilities early on in his career, Anunoby has now turned himself into a very good 3-point shooter. With time, Garuba can do the same. He has the size, length and all the time in the world to develop. Whoever decides to take a chance on him, will inherit an incredibly raw player. But all of the tools are there.
