Indiana Pacers: 5 offseason roster moves they need to make
Indiana Pacers offseason roster move No. 3: Re-sign Doug McDermott
Doug McDermott has been with the Pacers for the last three seasons. Each season he has played with the club he has gotten better. He is not known for his defense, McDermott has increased his scoring average every season he has been with the team.
Last season he even managed to start 29 of his games. While that was mainly due to Warren being out and LeVert missing games, the Pacers were still a solid team during this time. The positive for McDermott was that he was able to adjust his games to fit with what the team needed.
For the first time in his career, McDermott averaged more than ten field goal attempts per game. As a result, he was able to average a career-high 13.6 points per game. What was telling about McDermott’s effort was that he also averaged another career-high with 3.3 rebounds per game.
McDermott also had a career-best shooting number from the field, going at 53.2 percent. Given that McDermott made his name as a 3-point shooter, this maturation of his game is huge. Given that he is about to turn 30, McDermott is going to try and get the best value for this deal but as he fits the Pacers system well, he will not price himself out of their market.
