Indiana Pacers offseason roster move No. 2: Re-sign T.J. McConnell

After spending four seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, T.J. McConnell has found a home with the Indiana Pacers the last two seasons. His 2020-21 season was arguably his best yet after he worked his way deeper into the rotation.

There has never been any question about McConnell’s heart, he has put in everything he has when he is on the court. Standing 6’1”, McConnell has struggled with his offensive output and can be put in difficult switches on defense given his diminutive stature.

However, McConnell answered his critics this season, averaging 8.6 points, 6.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.9 steals in 26.0 minutes per game. He shot the ball at 55.9 percent from the floor, showing that he has a really good understanding of his own limitations and playing within himself.

McConnell had an incredibly rare triple-double this season where he scored 16 points on perfect 8-of-8 shooting, 13 assists, and a league record off the bench with 10 steals. It is this type of game that highlights the value of having a player like McConnell on the team.

He will pop up for a game here or there and do something that benefits the team. He is also not going to cost the team much money which is important as they already have $120 million in committed salary.
