New Orleans Pelicans offseason roster move No. 5: Guarantee Nickeil Alexander-Walker

The cousin of OKC Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nickeil Alexander-Walker is developing into his own player and the Pelicans are getting some good benefits from this. He is the type of player who can do anything when he is on the court, often filling up the box scores with his efforts.

This season he averaged 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 21.9 minutes per game. While he only played 46 games, he started 13 of them, even when Ball was healthy which shows you what the Pelicans think of how he plays.

Alexander-Walker also shot the ball well for a second-year guard, going at 41.9 percent from the floor, and 34.7 percent from behind the 3-point line. For a team that needs shooters, if he can improve on this, then his $3.2 million deal for next season is very cheap.

The other benefit of guaranteeing this deal is that if the Pelicans need to add some value as part of a trade, in order to get a player back, then Alexander-Walker is a very attractive piece. Hopefully, it is a trade made to help Williamson and not a Williamson trade.
