New Orleans Pelicans offseason roster move No. 3: Pick up Zion Williamson’s team option

This would be the most obvious move of the offseason in the entire NBA. One of the most exciting and hardest to stop players in the entire league, Williamson is a key piece to the future of the Pelicans.

Despite missing a large chunk of time through injury, there are not many players who could say they had as big an impact on their team as Williamson did with the Pelicans. The way that he played after he debuted last season through to this season is certainly noteworthy.

In his first two seasons, Williamson has filled up the box score. For the two seasons, he averaged 25.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks in just 31.7 minutes per game. These are impressive numbers for the second-year pro.

He is also incredibly efficient from the floor, going at 60.4 percent. He struggles from beyond the arc, going at 33.3 percent from deep. He shot the ball at 29.4 percent from deep this season which is not good enough but is only taking 0.6 attempts per game. His shooting from the line could also improve as he is only shooting 68.3 percent for his career.

However, with all that being said, he can improve on his free throws and his perimeter shooting. The Pelicans need him in their lineup as without him they are a bottom team in the league. Even if he is not happy, the Pelicans need to pick up the option so that they could possibly get a haul for him via trade, if it does not work out.
