NBA Finals: 3 takeaways from Bucks-Suns Game 2 – No. 3: The Phoenix Suns are feasting off the 3-point line
Throughout Game 2, the Phoenix Suns were hotter than the sun from beyond the arc, shooting 50.0 percent as they connected on 20-of-40 attempts. It was the third time in NBA history that a team made 20 3’s in an NBA Finals game.
Devin Booker will steal the headlines with his seven made 3-pointers, but Mikal Bridges was the true X-factor as the versatile wing knocked down three 3’s to complement a playoff career-high 27 points, seven rebounds, and exceptional defense. Chris Paul and Jae Crowder each knocked down three 3’s as well while Cameron Johnson and Torrey Craig each added two more to the steaming pot.
With elite ball movement, pure togetherness, proper execution, and timeliness, the Suns were able to generate a bunch of looks from 3-point range and were certainly feeling themselves. The Bucks didn’t even play that poorly defensively besides a few occasions where they overhelped and left guys open, yet they completely got annihilated from the perimeter.
Phoenix made loads of tough jumpers whether it was from 3-point territory or the mid-range. They shot 48.9 percent from the floor and 85.7 percent on free throws in addition to their hot night of perimeter shooting.
There’s honestly not much the Milwaukee Bucks could have done since the Suns simply just made many contested shots. If the Phoenix Suns stay as hot as they were in Game 2 with the series traveling to Milwaukee, it could be a wrap for the organization to finally reach glory atop the NBA’s best. However, it’s highly unlikely that they’ll match that efficiency again. Like Giannis Antetokounmpo said of his team, “We’ll figure it out,” so don’t count out the Bucks just yet.
