Chicago Bulls offseason roster move No. 5: Move on from Denzel Valentine

Denzel Valentine was another Bulls player who appears to have peaked in his second season with the team. He averaged 10.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 0.8 steals in 27.2 minutes per game, He even started 37 games out of the 77 that he played.

He would then only play 36 games in the 2019-20 season due to injury and as a result, his numbers suffered. His minutes were slashed in half and he went to 6.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 0.7 steals per game. His numbers did not improve in the first season under Billy Donovan.

If Valentine is going to resurrect his career, then he is going to need to do it away from the Bulls. He plays the same position as their team leader, Zach LaVine and therefore needs to be ready to produce when he hits the floor. The problem is his shooting numbers have gone down to 33.1 percent from deep, and 37.3 percent from the floor last season.

The Bulls need to concentrate on finding a quality small forward who will complement the rest of the team. If they can do this then expect them to move up in the Eastern Conference Standings next season.
