NBA free agency destinations for Mike Conley: New York Knicks

The New York Knicks will be calling every free agent point guard this summer. Chris Paul, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Lowry, and yes, Mike Conley. Of that group, Conley is the least starry name but could bring the best combination of all of them. He will be cheaper (and two years younger) than Chris Paul. He is a better shooter and defender than both Lowry and Ball. Ball is the only restricted free agent, taking away some of the control that the Knicks would have over the situation.

Conley fits the Tom Thibodeau mentality perfectly. He was part of the Grit’n’Grind Memphis Grizzlies, probably the most-Thibodeau team that he was not involved in. He has shown the willingness to be a complementary player, allowing the stars around him to go off. However, he is not incapable of stepping up and being the best player on the floor on a given night.

Finally finding himself in the Eastern Conference could be good for Conley. It has been said for years that if he had just been playing the other conference, he would be a multi-time All-Star before finally making his first appearance this season. Coming to the Knicks and helping them push further along their progression would allow him to build that resume up late in his career.
