Best Game 7 performances in NBA Playoffs history: 15. Oscar Robertson

Stat line:

  • 43 points
  • 6 rebounds
  • 6 assists

Playing against the Boston Celtics in the 1960s was never any fun. At nearly every position there was a Hall of Famer.

For countless years, Oscar Robertson fought them tooth and nail but more times than not, he came up short. The same would happen in 1963 but even with the loss, Robertson earned a spot on this list with his performance.

The original triple-double king left it all on the court in Game 7 on the home court of the Celtics. He dropped 43 points on 45.8 percent from the field. Remember, there was no 3-point just yet so Robertson had to score his points the hard way. Despite Bill Russell sitting in the lane and waiting on him, Robertson continued to attack the basket. He was rewarded with 22 free throws and nailed 21 of them.

No one else on Robertson’s Cincinnati Royals team that night scored more than 19 points. He didn’t quite have his normal triple-double stat line but he did register six rebounds and six assists as well.

In the end, the Celtics defeated Robertson’s Royals by 11 points and went on to win another NBA title. Unfortunately for most, that’s how the story normally ended when the Celtics were at their best.
