Toronto Raptors offseason roster move No. 3: Guarantee DeAndre’ Bembry

After spending four seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, DeAndre’ Bembry took his talents to the Toronto Raptors. He signed a two-year, minimum-salary deal with the 2019 champions. The defensive specialist most probably wanted to experience playoff success.

He has made a career based on locking down opponents and his time with the Raptors has been no different. He averaged 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.0 steals in only 19.1 minutes. Bembry even started 12 of the 51 games that he played last season.

Bembry only took 4.5 shots per game to average his 5.7 points which shows that he understands his limitations and plays within himself. He hit 51.3 percent of his shots from inside the arc. He struggled from deep where he only took 1.0 shots attempts per game so the volume of his perimeter shooting was not an issue.

However, where the Raptors are going to benefit from guaranteeing Bembry is that he is only due $1.9 million next season. This means the Raptors get a player back who knows their systems who also gives them the flexibility they require to potentially land a high-end free agent who could help them back to being a perennial playoff team.
