Cleveland Cavaliers offseason move No. 2: Move on from Matthew Dellavedova

The Australian point guard has been a cult figure for the Cavaliers for a number of years. He always plays hard and looks to create for others before himself. He has been a tremendous mentor for the Cavaliers’ young backcourt, but the time has come to move on from the 30-year-old.

Matthew Dellavedova only managed to play 13 games this season. He averaged 2.8 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 17.2 minutes per game. However, the problem for Dellavedova is that he is no longer an efficient shooter. In fact, he can be described as really bad given last season’s numbers.

He shot the ball at a 25.0 percent clip from the floor which is not good enough to even be a two-way contracted player. He has always been a solid shooter from the perimeter, but last season he shot the ball at 16.0 percent from beyond the arc. This number is beyond bad and does not warrant re-signing.

On top of that, Dellavedova battled a concussion and other injuries throughout the year. In his true tenacious Dellavedova fashion, he battled back from the potential career-ending concussion. However, the risk of signing Dellavedova to a contract is too great, the Cavaliers can use this roster spot on a player who they want to try out in the rebuild.
