Minnesota Timberwolves offseason move No. 3: Re-sign Jarred Vanderbilt.

Having now played three seasons in the league, Jarred Vanderbilt has started to find his feet with the Timberwolves. He played 64 games last season, starting 30 of them. He is not a starting level power forward in this league but that was the depth of the injury crisis suffered by the Timberwolves last season.

The Timberwolves have a plethora of shooting guards on their roster, but not many power forwards. Vanderbilt has the ability to give solid minutes off the bench. He does not shoot many 3-point shots so he gives the Timberwolves a different look on offense when he is on the floor.

Because he understands his role, Vanderbilt was able to collect 1.8 offensive rebounds per game. He was doing this against starting-level talent so if he is used off the bench, Vanderbilt could give the second unit valuable second-chance opportunities.

Further evidence that the 22-year-old knew his role is that he shot the ball at 60.6 percent. He averaged 5.4 points on only 3.7 shot attempts per game. He filled the box score most nights, averaging 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 17.8 minutes per game. He is the right age for the rebuild and should be able to be signed for close to the minimum salary.
