NBA Draft: LaMelo Ball goes first in 2020 NBA Redraft
The New York Knicks selected two players in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft, taking one with the eighth pick and one with the 25th. In the end, they came away with roughly the eighth-best and 25th-best players but in reverse order.
In the redraft they start to right that wrong, getting Immanuel Quickley at eight. The former Kentucky Wildcat was the second point guard from his school taken in the draft, but he leapfrogs his former teammate Tyrese Maxey by a significant margin this time around.
Quickley helped the Knicks win games, something he wasn’t supposed to do as a non-lottery rookie. He had a robust 25.6 percent usage rate, second on the team behind Julius Randle. He struggled to finish inside but was an unexpectedly strong 38.9 percent from deep. He was fourth among rookies in win shares playing a key role on the 4-seed.
At 6’3″ Quickley has size as a point guard, and he fits perfectly on a team with another ball-handler at another position. That’s most teams, including the Knicks with R.J. Barrett. He is a no-brainer top-10 pick in the redraft.
