OKC Thunder offseason roster move No. 4: Guarantee Kenrich Williams

Williams came to the OKC Thunder as part of the four-team trade that sent Steven Adams to the New Orleans Pelicans. He played his first two seasons with the Pelicans prior to the trade. He struggled to fit into their offensive systems, only averaging 4.9 points in 22.5 minutes per game.

Williams is not in the NBA for his offense though. He is one of the hardest-working players in the league when he hits the floor. He became a fan favorite of the OKC Thunder faithful with his hustle plays where he was able to impact the opposition’s game plans.

He plays with a level of intensity that you just can’t teach, and he has the potential to carve out a career similar to that of Thunder legend Nick Collison. He is the type of player that every franchise needs, the glue guy who puts extra effort in to win the ball.

Williams has also been working on his offense and averaged a career-high 8.0 points per game on only 6.2 shot attempts. His deal is only worth $2.0 million next season and then another non-guaranteed $2.0 million in 2022-23. Like Dort, the level of salary cap flexibility this gives the Thunder is huge for the franchise.
