OKC Thunder: 5 offseason roster moves they have to make
OKC Thunder offseason roster move No. 3:Guarantee Luguentz Dort
The Thunder have been a huge part of the Luguentz Dort story in the NBA. He went undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft before the Thunder signed him to a two-way deal. Teams did not draft Dort due to concerns with his 3-point shooting.
Dort played hard for the OKC Blue before earning a call up to the varsity squad where he impressed with his defensive ability and effort. As a result, he had his two-way deal converted to a four-year minimum salary full NBA contract. He is now about to enter the third year of this deal.
Dort is due to be paid $1.7 million this season and for a player who will become a regular feature in All-Defensive teams, this is a small price to pay. He is expanding his offensive game to include some solid 3-point shooting to go along with his aggressive driving game.
The size of Dort’s deal also helps the Thunder retain a level of flexibility with their salary cap situation. They have huge amounts of space available to sign some quality free agents should they have the opportunity. They may also use some of this space to trade for players, trying them out and eating their contracts if they cut them.
