OKC Thunder offseason roster move No.1: Trade Kemba Walker.

The Thunder conducted a rare trade prior to draft week when they sent Al Horford to the Boston Celtics and in return received Kemba Walker and the 16th pick in the 2021 NBA draft. It is unlikely that Walker will stay as a member of the franchise and ideally the Thunder will be able to package him elsewhere via trade.

Walker is still a really good player who is having knee issues. However, as he is a point guard, he plays the same position as Gilgeous Alexander and Theo Maledon, who they are trying to develop. While the case could be made for Walker to play alongside Gilgeous-Alexander in a similar manner to Chris Paul, this would not work.

The Thunder have Luguentz Dort who is their starting two-guard, with Darius Bazley as their starting forward. They are really trying to develop Pokusevski, and will also want to play the player they take with the sixth pick in the draft.

Expect Walker to be a draft-night trade so that the Thunder can move up the draft order if the player that they want is taken by another team. Otherwise, he will be traded to get a player who suits the Thunder’s needs from another team.
