Orlando Magic offseason roster move No. 3: Guarantee Dwayne Bacon’s contract

Dwayne Bacon was the only Orlando Magic player to play in all 72 games last season. He is a solid veteran who can help guide some of the younger players through the trials and tribulations of an NBA season. He even started 50 games for the Magic this season.

While Bacon is not going to take this team to great heights, he is going to be able to be moved to the bench as other, younger players become more NBA-ready. He is still going to get minutes throughout the season but they will diminish.

This is not a problem given that if the Magic does decide to guarantee his contract, it is only at the minimum salary of $1.8 million. This is not going to have a huge impact on the Magic’s ability to sign free agents in the offseason.

After this season, the Magic can either offer Bacon a new deal or move on from him. It is this flexibility that makes Bacon’s contract so appealing for the franchise. He will also be playing for his next deal which may impact his production, which will potentially help the Magic
