Orlando Magic offseason roster move No. 2: Pick up Wendell Carter’s team option.

As the other player in the Vucevic trade, Carter is a decent part of the Magic’s future. At 22 he is the right age for the current Magic rebuild and has plenty to give when it comes to energy and effort. His work on the offensive glass is going to be beneficial for this team.

What will be interesting to see will be his combination with Isaac. They both have the ability to shoot from deep which means that the Magic could have a twin towers setup where both players can stretch the floor. The benefit of this is at least one of the Magic’s bigs will be looking to clean up the offensive glass.

On top of this, Carter’s team option is only worth $6.9 million so the Magic have still got enough cap space to try and sign another player or two who can help with the rebuild. This is going to be crucial moving forward as both Isaac and Fultz’s contract extensions kick in next season.

While the Magic also have Mo Bamba on their roster, Carter has a higher ceiling than the third-year man out of Texas. Both of these players are eligible for extensions in the offseason, meaning that the Magic have almost a full season to assess which player best fits their needs, probably trading the other prior to the deadline.
