Orlando Magic: 5 offseason roster moves they must make
Orlando Magic offseason roster move No. 1: Move on from Otto Porter
As mentioned previously, Porter was received in the trade from the Chicago Bulls as part of the Vucevic deal. Porter was included to make the salaries work. As a result, Porter only played three games for the Magic, averaging 8.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
Over his career, Porter has been a solid player for the Washington Wizards and then the Bulls. When he has made the court, he has certainly been a difference-maker. That is why the Wizards signed him to a four-year, $106 million deal in the 2017 offseason.
The problem is, Porter cannot seem to stay on the court. Since signing his deal he has managed to play only 175 of a possible 291 games. This is only good for 60 percent of all possible games. At between $24 and $28 million per season, this is not good enough.
On top of this, Porter is 27 years old which is too old for the timeline the Magic are embarking upon. While he could be a good mentor for some of the younger players, given the amount of cap space available on numerous teams this offseason, Porter is likely to be offered a decent deal elsewhere.
